The Forest Grove Community School serves grades 1-8, and offers a tutoring program called Tree Hours. It runs three days a week: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:20 to 4:30. Mondays are for 3rd & 4th grade students, Tuesdays are for 7th & 8th grade students, and Thursdays are for 5th & 6th grade students. We rely on volunteers from FGHS and Pacific University to come in and help students with their homework as tutors. Volunteer tutors usually work with groups of 1-3 students at a time. Great volunteers are willing to be patient with students, to engage with them positively, and to refocus their attention on getting some work done.
Right now the program is looking for volunteers who are willing and able to commit to tutoring regularly (once a week) for at least 4 or so weeks at a time. If volunteers are only interested in tutoring for a few weeks (say, they're available until spring sports start or are available after winter sports end) that is totally fine. All volunteers will have to complete a background check prior to volunteering.
If you are interested in this service opportunity or have any questions, email Jonathan Kelly at j.kelly@fgcschool.org . If you need the link to the online background check email either Jonathan or Maggie Hatt.
